Non-highway signs to be removed

SANTA FE — New Mexico Department of Transportation District Five maintenance crews will continuously remove non-highway signage from New Mexico Department of Transportation Right-of-Way areas within the NMDOT District Five boundaries. NMDOT District Five boundaries are located within Torrance, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Taos and San Juan Counties.

In accordance with New Mexico Administrative Code 18-20.5 – Removal of encroachments, obstructions, abandoned motor vehicles, and for restriction of vending (18-NMAC 20.5), NMDOT District Five maintenance personnel has the authority to remove such obstructions without prior notice to the owner.  In addition to trespassing issues, obstructions on highway right-of-way increases potential safety hazards to the traveling public.

NMDOT District Five maintenance crews will try to remove non-highway signs without any damage. Sign owners can retrieve their property from the area NMDOT maintenance patrol yard within ten business days. To locate a removed sign, owners can call 827-9567.
