National Geographic Maps is creating a Web site and map guide to support geotourism in the Four Corners Region.
On Monday, Los Alamos residents and businesses will have their chance to nominate the places they love for inclusion in this project, which will be marketed internationally. Roberta Salazar, of the Taos organization Rivers and Birds, will explain the process at the Pajarito Environmental Education Center during two sessions, from noon-1 p.m. and from 4:30-6 p.m. The map and Web site are designed to promote geotourism, defined as tourism that sustains and enhances a location or region.
Each community gets to nominate what it regards as its special treasures.
Participants are welcome to bring laptops and make nominations on the spot.
Nominations are due by Dec. 17 and can be made at www.fourcornersgeotourism.com.
PEEC is located at 3540 Orange Street, behind the high school.
