While some states face a $4 per gallon price tag for gas this year, locally, gas prices appear to have stabilized.
Gasoline prices at stations throughout Los Alamos did not drastically deviate.
As of Monday afternoon, the price for regular ranged from $2.89 to $2.91, regular plus went from $2.99 to $3.08, premium gas ranged from $3.09 to $3.20 and diesel went from $3.34 to $3.45.
The Conoco stations, Metzger’s Mobil and Chevron shared similar gas prices.
Chevron’s prices were slightly higher for regular and premium but ran lower for regular plus. Shell charged the most of all Los Alamos stations surveyed.
Local gas prices are comparable to most in Santa Fe.
SantaFeGasPrices.com reported that in Santa Fe an average price for gas was $2.90 last week.
David Bennett, manager of the Conoco located near the Hilltop Shopping Center on Arkansas Street, said there has not been a high change is prices at the station, adding that prices have fluctuated by a nickel. As for prices rising sharply, Bennett said he has only heard rumors.
Martin Pacheco, a customer at the Chevron gas station in Los Alamos said, “I think (the prices) are reasonable. I think we’re fair. I’ve seen them higher just a few miles away. I don’t like them (prices) but that’s why I own economy cars.”
