The New Mexico Activities Association signed a partnership agreement with MaxPreps.com to make the website an “official statistician and digital media partner.”
The NMAA, the governing body of most interscholastic prep sports in the state, made the announcement earlier this week.
“The NMAA is thrilled about the opportunity to work with MaxPreps and is excited about the services they have made available to both our member schools and communities across New Mexico,” said NMAA executive director Gary Tripp in a press release.
MaxPreps.com, which is headquartered in Cameron Park, Calif., is a unit of CBS.
The announcement came as the NMAA was waiting to see the results of a referenda item that the MaxPreps.com prep team polls be used for seeding and selection instead of the New Mexico High School Coaches Association polls, which the association currently uses. The deadline for schools to return referenda votes on that and seven other issues was today.
The agreement between MaxPreps.com and the NMAA is for five years. NMAA member schools will be required to post box score information to the website following contests — there had been no such requirement previously.
According to the NMAA, it will use statistical information to determine postseason qualifications and manage state record books.
