Members of the New Mexico Activities Association voted to have no reductions in number of scheduled seasonal events, the association said in a press release Wednesday.

The NMAA, the governing body of most interscholastic sports in the state, issued a referenda to member schools Dec. 3 asking if sports should lower the number of allowable regular season contests.

In all, 116 of the 163 member schools responded. According to the press release, 52 schools (45 percent) voted that no reduction in games be allowed.

One-third of responding schools voted to reduce contests in some sports and 22 percent voted to reduce contests in all sports except football.

Also on the referenda, the NMAA membership voted 82-32 to make cheerleading and dance/drill an official sport. It has previously been considered an activity.
