ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Gov. Bill Richardson's administration reports that New Mexico's unemployment rate dropped to 8.2 percent in June, from 8.4 percent in the previous month.
Nearly 78,300 New Mexicans were without jobs in June.
Unemployment statewide remains well above the 7.1 percent jobless rate in June 2009.
The state Department of Workforce Solutions said New Mexico has lost 14,200 jobs during the past year.
Unemployment last month ranged from 3.6 percent in Los Alamos County to 19 percent in Luna County in southern New Mexico.
The national unemployment rate in June was 9.5 percent. Twenty-six states and the District of Columbia had higher unemployment rates than New Mexico.
