Los Alamos High School’s Taylor Ealey and Alex Nichols were named to the 2009 All-Star volleyball team last week.
Ealey, a senior middle blocker for the Hilltoppers, and senior outside hitter Nichols were selected for the honor, the only two representatives from District 2AAAA.
The All-Star teams include the top graduating seniors in the state. All-Star teams are selected by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association, voted upon by coaches from around the state.
Ealey, who missed the early part of the 2009 season due to a nagging knee injury, came up big late in the season, including an impressive showing in the state Class AAAA playoffs.
For her efforts, Ealey was named the District 2AAAA Player of the year.
Nichols, the top 2AAAA player in 2008, had another strong season and was named to the All-District first team again in 2009.
With their selections, Nichols and Ealey will be invited to participate in the NMHSCA volleyball match, which will be held July 27 in Albuquerque.
The All-Star match will pit players from the northern part of the state against players from the southern part.
Other notable players selected for the All-Star squads include St. Pius X’s Sam Brown, Goddard’s Callie Chaffin, Halie Harton and Madeline Greene, and Pojoaque’s Dionna Montoya, Miquela Lovato and Marissa Romero.
