News Alert: State Police Academy set for October

A Fall 2010 New Mexico State Police Academy has been scheduled to begin in October 2010, funded by the recent signature of Gov. Bill Richardson of NM House Bill 2.


This recruit class, the 82nd in the history of the New Mexico State Police, is currently taking applications. 


Potential candidates must submit a completed application and pass the physical fitness and written test. For those who pass, the application will be forwarded to the Recruiting Division of the New Mexico State Police in Santa Fe. 


That recruit class involves an intensive, 20-week training program.


Officers currently certified with another agency are also welcome to apply. Application deadline is June 12.


The New Mexico State Police is the top law enforcement agency in the state, focused on DWI prevention, crime investigation and highway safety.


Specialized units dedicated to search and recovery, tactical team, canine team and bomb team among others, provide additional opportunities within the department.


This is an opportunity to join an elite group of law enforcement professionals and be part of an exciting career.


Graduates of the Academy will have the opportunity for assignments around the state of New Mexico.


The starting recruit pay for those entering the Academy is $14.80 hourly.


Following completion, the hourly wage for a recently-certified patrolman begins at $17.48 in addition to a generous benefit package is available.
