-A A +A

The National Weather Service has issued the following advisory...

By The Staff

POTENTIAL MAJOR WINTER STORM TO IMPACT WESTERN AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO EARLY IN THE UPCOMING WORK WEEK...

SIGNIFICANT SNOWS ARE POSSIBLE FROM EARLY MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON ACROSS MUCH OF WESTERN AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO. THE SNOW IS IN RESPONSE TO AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE THAT WILL TRACK FROM WEST TO EAST ACROSS THE STATE. SNOW SHOULD DEVELOP ACROSS THE WEST CENTRAL AND NORTHERN MOUNTAINS AROUND DAYBREAK ON MONDAY. ACTIVITY WILL EXPAND EASTWARD MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY... IMPACTING THE CENTRAL MOUNTAINS AS WELL AS THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY AS SNOW LEVELS DROP TO THE VALLEY FLOORS. SNOW SHOULD DISSIPATE TUESDAY AFTERNOON ACROSS THE AREA. IT APPEARS THE HEAVIER SNOW ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE FOCUSED ALONG THE WESTERN SLOPES OF THE HIGH TERRAIN... ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS. LESSER AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED WITHIN THE VALLEYS AND EASTERN PLAINS OF NEW MEXICO. EVEN THOUGH READINGS WILL NOT BE AS COLD AS THE PREVIOUS WINTER STORM... WINDS WILL BE NOTABLY STRONGER ACROSS NEW MEXICO. BREEZY TO WINDY CONDITIONS MAY LEAD TO CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW... CREATING REDUCED VISIBILITIES AND HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS.

RESIDENTS AND PERSONS WITH TRAVEL INTERESTS THROUGHOUT WESTERN AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO SHOULD STAY ADVISED OF THE LATEST FORECASTS AND WEATHER CONDITIONS AS THIS WINTER WEATHER EVENT UNFOLDS.
