Jim Hall has notified the Los Alamos County Council that he has resigned his position on the Charter Review Committee (CRC).

“I am resigning because I believe my role as a candidate for council might compromise the work of the CRC if I were to remain a member,” Hall stated in an e-mail to councilors Saturday. “The CRC is performing a critical function for the community, and, as much as possible, it is important that its decision-making process and its decisions be seen to be independent of politics and political influence.”

His continued membership could conceivably raise questions about CRC recommendations being influenced by his candidacy, he said.

In spite of his “deep interest” in CRC issues, Hall said he believes it is in the best interest of the CRC for his participation to be as any other member of the public at this point.

“I will do my best to attend meetings and continue to offer my input, but as one sitting on the other side of the table,” Hall said. “Fortunately, my experience so far leads me to believe that CRC members are among the most thoughtful and wisest members of our community, and I can resign knowing the process and decisions are in good hands.”

If elected to council, the CRC can expect his strong support of its recommendations, Hall said.
