Community members got to meet Sally Leon-Guerrero, the new postmaster of the Los Alamos Post Office, during her official swearing in ceremony this morning in the post office lobby.“I have already met with several people from the community since arriving here Aug. 15,” she said. “I have an open door policy – anyone who wants to talk is welcome to come over and knock on the door.” Leon-Guerrero is single and lives on the Hill. She began her postal career as a letter carrier 14 years ago and served as a station manager in Albuquerque for the last year, she said. She was promoted to Los Alamos postmaster in August to replace previous postmaster Tom Harrison, who left the Hill May 23 to accept a promotion and moved to North Carolina.During an interview this morning, Leon-Guerrero discussed a couple of her main areas of focus.“Service is always going to be the number-one goal,” she said. “Safety is also a really high priority because of the climate here. Last year we had no motor vehicle accidents and we want to see that continue. One of our carriers was bitten two weeks ago, so we want to work with the community on safety education.” Leon-Guerrero spoke of the similarities of Los Alamos to the military towns she grew up in with her father being career Air Force.
