New changes to an old tradition

While the coming Little Forest Playschool Annual Spring Resale will still offer the same variety and deals, participants should be on the look out for some new changes this year, said school director, Jeni Morrison.

“Little Forest is introducing a new bar-coding system that will allow for faster check-out and better tracking of merchandise. Anyone who wishes to be a Seller at the upcoming Resale will need to register online and pay a small seller’s fee of $7.50,” she said. “The new system requires this registration even for those people who have been sellers at Resale before.”

For more than 20 years, the Little Forest Playschool Resale has been an event within the Los Alamos community.

Each fall and spring, Little Forest Playschool hosts the community-wide consignment sale. The Resale events are Little Forest’s biggest fundraisers and comprise a sizable portion of the playschool’s yearly operating budget.

Little Forest organizes, advertises and provides a space where members of the community may sell gently-used children’s toys, clothing, baby equipment, furniture and more.

“The Resale has become an annual tradition,” said the Resale co-chair, April Wade. “It provides a service to many families, offering a venue where families can pass along outgrown items as well as find new things.”

Sellers deliver clean, tagged items to the sale site, then earn 70 percent of the selling price for each item sold. The playschool retains a commission of 30 percent. The Spring Resale will feature infant and children’s clothing (up to size 14), toys, sports gear, books, DVD’s and infants furniture, including cribs, changing tables, playpens, highchairs, car seats and strollers.

Anyone can participate in the Resale by registering at www.little

Detailed instructions for sellers and sign-up sheets for volunteers can be found by clicking on the RESALE link.

Volunteer sign-up is open to the public and all volunteers for the event receive early shopping privileges on March 11. Volunteers are needed for both March 11 and March 12 to help with setup, sorting, check-out and clean-up.

Little Forest Playschool also accepts donations of children’s items  for which the school retains 100 percent of the sales. Small donations can be dropped off at Little Forest, 3880 Villa Street, any time between now and March 9.

Larger donations, such as cribs, strollers and large toys should be dropped off at the site on the evening of March 10 or before noon on March 11.

Little Forest Playschool, located at 3880 Villa Street in Los Alamos, is a private, non-profit, parent cooperative preschool offering full and part-time programs for children ages 2 to Kindergarten.
