National Fingerstyle Champion to perform in LA

-A A +A

National Fingerstyle Guitar Champion, Michael Chapdelaine will play a solo concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at Fuller Lodge, as part of the Guitars at the Lodge Series.
Chapdelaine has won top honors in five international guitar competitions, including first prize in the Guitar Foundation of America Competition, the world’s most prestigious classical guitar competition. He has been awarded two National Endowment for the Arts Solo Recitalist Fellowships and holds a master’s degree from Florida State University. He studied with Spanish maestro Andres Segovia and has been professor of guitar at the University of New Mexico since 1985.
The release of his “Sonata Romantica” CD brought Chapdelaine’s artistry to the attention of Time-Life Music and led to the signing of a three double CD contract to arrange, produce and record a collection of romantic popular favorites. The first four CDs, called “Guitar by Moonlight”  and “Romantic Guitar,” sold several hundred thousand copies in just the first two years of retail sales.
Chapdelaine’s program will feature music from his other nine solo CDs of original compositions, popular music arrangements as well as traditional classical and Spanish guitar music and some new material now being recorded for his new CD to be released in the spring. He will perform on both classical and steel-string guitars.
Admission is $15 or $10 for Los Alamos Arts Council members. Tickets are available at the door or in advance at the LAAC office.
