Fuller Lodge again will resonate with music when the Los Alamos Rotary Club presents a Fathers’ Day concert, performed by 12 award winners of the annual Deborah Beene Memorial Music Competitions. The concert will begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
These annual concerts showcase the musical talents developed by young Los Alamos musicians, a number of whom pursue professional careers in music.
The Sunday concert will include performances by the three winners of the 2012 Beene Music Competition and nine winners of previous Beene Music Competitions of the last seven years.
The 2012 award winners are soprano Monica Poston (first prize); cellist Dalton Smith (second prize); and pianist Kevin Gao (third prize). Among the nine winners of previous competitions who will be heard are: violinist Jin Park; trombonist Eli Berg; pianist David Li; clarinetist Shannon Burns; soprano Susan Hargreaves; violinist Renée Hemsing; trombonist Bryant Letellier; pianist Nathan Salazar and pianist Cindy Little, the winner of the 1979 competition.
The annual Beene Music Competitions are open to all qualified high school student musicians in Los Alamos County. Award winners are selected on the basis of their performances at the public competitions in May.
