More traffic delays on N.M. 4

-A A +A

A second water leak was discovered last week

By Special to the Monitor

While repairs to a water leak on N.M. 4 were being conducted last week, crews with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities discovered a second leak slightly farther south.

Crews have planned emergency repairs for this leak while the Los Alamos Public Schools are on spring break.

A small section of the northbound lane on N.M. 4 south of East Jemez Road or the “truck route” will be closed at

7:30 a.m.

Crews will excavate on the east side of the road to expose and repair a section of 16-inch concrete cylinder pipe. Every attempt will be made to conclude repairs by Wednesday, however, due to the extent of damage work may continue into Thursday.

A flagging operation will permit traffic to travel north and south intermittently in the southbound single lane.

Motorists can expect traffic delays beginning tomorrow morning and into the evening. Drivers should exercise caution when approaching the work zone and be prepared to stop.

The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) operates the county-owned electric, gas, water and wastewater systems under the jurisdiction of the Board of Public Utilities. The Board meets the third Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. and the public is always welcome.
