Proposed county budget to be published today

By Special to the Monitor

Under the County Charter, the County’s proposed budget must be published by March 31 each year. The Los Alamos Monitor has a newspaper insert about the proposed budget for FY 11 and FY 12 that is being distributed to all households today and additional copies of the insert will be available at the 311 Customer Care Center and at Budget Hearings when they begin April 19.

The budget will also be posted on the County’s Web page at www.losalamosnm.us no later than Thursday. Copies of the budget will also be available at the 311 CCC and both public libraries.

The Charter Review Committee (CRC) announced it will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Council Chambers, in order to review the recommendations of its “Consistency and Clarity” (C and C) Subcommittee. The full CRC needs to vote to accept or recommend further changes to the Subcommittee’s suggested Charter changes — which are primarily changes to redundant language, legal wording or items that are inconsistent with State law. Full CRC acceptance of the recommendations must occur next week at the special meeting because CRC members are scheduled to report to the Council at the upcoming Council meeting at 7 p.m. on April 13 in the White Rock Town Hall. The C and C recommendations will be part of that Council update on the 13th.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting on Monday and give the CRC their comments.

The C and C Subcommittee’s report will be posted on the CRC’s Web page at www.los

alamosnm.us on Monday morning.
