The Newcomers and Neighbors, a social network for Los Alamos residents, is opening up its doors to the community through conversation and coffee.
An open house will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Coffee House Café.
The purpose of the event, President Melanie Colgan said, is to show people the activities Newcomers and Neighbors offers and attract new members.
Newcomers and Neighbors, she explained, is a social organization that has served Los Alamos and White Rock for the past couple of years.
“It’s just a way for people who are new to town (or) anyone who wants to meet people (to) come on out and meet people,” Colgan said.
Colgan can vouch for the club’s effectiveness; she said since she has joined, she has made a lot more friends.
While Newcomers and Neighbors has become very family-oriented, when it first started, it was a social organization for the entire community.
It’s a side to Newcomers and Neighbors that they are interested in revitalizing, Colgan said.
Programs currently provided include an Easter party, cookie decorating parties and a running/swimming group for moms, as well as playgroups. New programs that the organization is interested in offering include poker nights and girls’ nights out.
She added suggestions are welcome.
Currently, between 25 and 30 families are members of the group.
If interested in participating, Colgan encourages people to attend the open house. However, she can be reached through e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. The organization also has a new blog, www.nand nlosalamos.logsport.com.
