Massive storm system expected to move toward NM

A LARGE STORM SYSTEM CURRENTLY STALLED OVER THE NORTHERN BAJA WILL TRACK EAST OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AND BEGIN TO IMPACT WESTERN NEW MEXICO LATER SUNDAY.

INITIALLY... WARMER AIR WILL GET DRAWN NORTH AHEAD OF THE STORM SYSTEM WITH SNOW LEVELS REMAINING WELL ABOVE 7500 FEET SUNDAY NIGHT AND INTO THE FIRST PART OF MONDAY WITH RAIN EXPECTED IN THE VALLEYS AND PLAINS.

COLDER AIR WILL BLAST THROUGH THE EASTERN PLAINS MONDAY MORNING WITH PRECIPITATION CHANGING OVER TO SNOW FROM THE CENTRAL MOUNTAIN CHAIN EAST ACROSS THE PLAINS.

THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS TO DEVELOP FROM THE EAST SLOPES OF THE SANDIA MANZANO AND SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAIN RANGES... ADJACENT HIGHLANDS... EAST CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST PLAINS MONDAY INTO MONDAY NIGHT.

SNOW AMOUNTS WILL BE LESS OVER THE WESTERN HIGH TERRAIN WITH MOSTLY RAIN OR A MIX OVER THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY EXPECTED. SNOW SHOWERS WILL LINGER INTO TUESDAY OVER THE CENTRAL MOUNTAINS BEFORE TAPERING OFF LATE IN THE DAY.
