Los Alamos hosts a vibrant community of music groups

-A A +A

Your August 26th issue of Kaleidoscope featured a nice article about the Los Alamos Piano Quartet’s upcoming Brown Bag Concert.
However, the headline on the Kaleidoscope cover incorrectly identified the presenter of this concert as the Los Alamos Concert Association.
The presenter is actually the Los Alamos Arts Council as noted correctly in the article.
This community is fortunate to have a host of musical ensembles and presenters providing a rich assortment of local entertainment and performing opportunities.
A source of constant frustration for all these organizations, however, is that they are so frequently confused.
And no wonder!  Almost all of them are called  “Los Alamos Fill-in-the-Blank.”
Local performing groups include The Los Alamos Piano Quartet, the Los Alamos Symphony Orchestra, the Los Alamos Choral Society, the Los Alamos Community Winds, and the Los Alamos Light Opera.
There are undoubtedly others that I have missed.
In addition, there are at least three presenters in town.
These are organizations that do not perform, but organize concert series.
These include the Los Alamos Arts Council, the Los Alamos Concert Association and the Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series formerly known (quite nicely, I thought) as the Gordon’s Concerts.
Maybe the Monitor could do a feature article on the local music scene to help sort out for your readership (and for your staff) who does what.
Just for the record, the Los Alamos Concert Association presents a nationally respected, classical concert series featuring virtuoso artists from around the globe.  Our 64th season begins in October.
