The LA Hilltopper football team is hoping its return trip home will go better than its two most recent road outings.

Los Alamos will host Albuquerque Academy tonight in the 2009 Homecoming contest. Tonight’s game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The Hilltopppers (1-3) took a couple of drubbings on the road the last two weeks. After being shut out by the Silver Fighting Colts two weeks ago, 53-0, they were knocked around by the No. 1 Class 4A team in the state, Belen, 54-8 last week. The only bright spot in the game against Belen was Los Alamos getting into the end zone, its first offensive touchdown of the seasons.

Los Alamos did win its most recent home outing., that coming Sept. 11.

Los Alamos scored nine points on defense, including a 9-yard interception return for a touchdown by defensive end by Joey Martinez, to beat Santa Fe, 12-6 at Sullivan Field.

Academy, meanwhile, is a spotless 4-0 on the season, having beaten three Class 4A teams rather convincingly, including the Hilltoppers District 2AAAA rivals Taos and Bernalillo.

The Chargers, who play in Class 3A, despite competing in Class 4A in all other sports, have allowed just 32 points in their 4 2009 games.

CUTLINE: Hilltopper running back Marshall Naranjo heads down the field last week against the Belen Eagles. The HTs will host their Homecomeing game tonight when they face Albuquerque Academy. Game time is 7 p.m.
