Tarah Logan, head coach of the Los Alamos Hilltopper girls basketball team, left her position abruptly Monday.
Logan, coaching in her fifth season with the team, resigned from her post effective Monday. She turned in her resignation to Los Alamos High School athletic director Vicki Nelms, citing family issues.
Nelms confirmed the resignation with an email to the media Monday afternoon.
“I would like to thank for her time as the Head Girls Basketball Coach and wish her well in her future endeavors,” Nelms’ email read in part.
Taking over for the Hilltoppers will be Ann Stewart. Stewart, who is also a boys golf coach at the school, is scheduled to make her coaching debut with the team tonight when they travel to Taos.
“It’s not the best of circumstances to be taking over the team right now, but hopefully we can pull out the remainder of the season,” Stewart said Tuesday morning.
Stewart’s first day on the job was Monday and she said she didn’t try to introduce anything new to the team, although she might attempt that before the start of district.
Logan’s resignation comes at a critical time in the season for the Hilltopper program, which is exactly one week away from the start of the District 2-4A season.
