Local resources abound for techDear Editor,We appreciate the profile of Caldera Pharmaceuticals in the Nov. 15 edition of the Monitor. We have received significant support from community leaders who are committed to diversifying our economy. The strong leadership shown by Rep. Udall, Sen. Domenici and Sen. Bingaman was noted in the article. In addition, we would like to point out the many resources that are available locally for growing technology businesses; each of these has played a role in our success. These include economic development loans available through Los Alamos County. This innovative loan program, spearheaded by Assistant County Administrator Tony Mortillaro, was instrumental in Caldera’s ability to grow in the county. Its matching investment requirements have brought significant external investment into the county.Technology Ventures Corporation (TVC), founded by Sandia National Laboratory and Lockheed, (www.techventures.org/) provides excellent training through its CCET program (http://www.techventures.org/whatwedo/entrepreneurs.php) and hosts an investment symposium that brings together many leading investors from all over the country (www.techventures.org/news/index.php?releaseID=082). The State of New Mexico Economic Development Department offers a variety of incentives, such as tax credits, to technology businesses in New Mexico (www.edd.state.nm.us/businessAssistance/incentives/index.html).These programs have been extremely useful and the process is streamlined and convenient. Los Alamos National Bank is supportive of new businesses in the community; working with them has been a pleasure. We at Caldera believe in the high-tech economy that can grow in Los Alamos and we are proud to be a part of it. We would be glad to share our experience to help other prospective tech companies.Benjamin WarnerCaldera Pharmaceuticals Inc.
