Local orthodontist to move to Nashville

After spending nearly seven years serving patients in Los Alamos and the surrounding area, Dr. Marion Messersmith, an orthodontist, has decided to return to full-time teaching. Dr. Messersmith and his wife, Cricket, will be moving to Nashville where Messersmith will be the Program Director of the Orthodontic Program at Vanderbilt University.“Reaching this decision has been agonizing for Cricket and me,” Dr Messersmith said. “We have thoroughly enjoyed living in Los Alamos. It is difficult leaving my patients and for Cricket to leave her friends and the customers she has had through her Washi Art business. “My employees at the practice have truly been outstanding,” he said. “They will stay to continue to provide you the best possible orthodontic care. Their work ethic and loyalty have been extremely gratifying”. Picking up Messersmith’s practice will be Dr. David Hobson.The Messersmiths said they have enjoyed life in New Mexico - the fabulous weather, the beautiful and uplifting vistas, walking, and hiking the great outdoors and their many friends. However, there is a severe shortage of orthodontic educators nationwide. Many orthodontic programs are in danger of losing their accreditation status and ultimately closing for lack of qualified educators.
