Local gymnasts earn accolades at Santa Fe competition

The Los Alamos School of Gymnastics Atomic Tumblers performed recently at the Halloween Invite hosted by Zia Gymnastics in Santa Fe.

In attendance were 160 gymnasts representing eight New Mexico teams from Santa Fe, Taos, Gallup, Albuquerque, Rio Rancho and Los Alamos.  Fourteen Tumblers competed in Levels 4, 5 and 6, bringing home nine gold, seven silver and four bronze medals.

The Level 4 Atomic Tumblers took three of the top four spots in the 6-7 year-old age group, as well as first place on all four events. 

Katie Wingo, last year's all-around state championship silver medalist in her age group, took first place with an all-around score of 35.525.  She won gold in three of four events, with a 9.25 on bars, a 9.05 on floor, and an 8.725 on balance beam. 

Paetyn Miller, with an all-around of 31.80, took third place; she earned second place on bars (8.65) and third on floor (7.30). Brianna Fryer was the all-around 4th (30.80), taking first on vault with an 8.90.

Anna Clark came in second among 8-year-olds on bars with a 9.0; she stood seventh all-around (33.90).  Nine-year-old Allison Warner vaulted to eleventh place in her age group with an 8.30.  Among 10-13 year-olds, Elyse Phillips took first place on balance beam (8.65), and fifth overall (34.50); Suyana Ferreira earned 8.95 on vault for third place, while a 9.10 on bars earned Cherie McCreary a silver medal.

LASG's high scorer for the meet, Level 5 gymnast Alyssa Hilger, took second place in the 11-year-old category with a 35.70 all-around;  she was first on bars (9.40), and second on both beam (9.00) and floor (9.10). 

Liz Lockhart, the Level 4 state champion in her age group last season, took home more gold in both vault (8.90) and bars (9.25), as well as silver all-around with a 34.775.  Charlotte Ulrich earned sixth place on beam (7.75) and seventh (8.05) on vault among 6-9-year-olds; 10-year-old Lilly Bueck placed third on beam (8.30), and sixth overall in her age group with 32.575; and an all-around score of 30.35 placed Ramya Stevens in tenth place in the 12 and over age group.

Carley Stilwell, the only Level 6 Tumbler to compete at the meet, earned an 8.85 on floor for fourth place.
