The 12-member Republican Party of Los Alamos delegation, which was elected January 30 at the Los Alamos County Republican Pre-Primary, attended the State Republican Pre-primary Saturday.
Delegates from all 33 counties of New Mexico were represented at the Convention. There were 524 delegates present and 236 proxies for a total vote of 760 for the only contested statewide race.
The race was between David Clements and Allen Weh for U.S. Senate. Allen Weh, an Albuquerque businessman and retired Marine Corps colonel, received 53.17 percent of the vote and David Clements, an Attorney from Las Cruces received 46.83 percent of the vote. Both will now be on the June primary ballot and the winner will face Sen. Tom Udall in the November general election. It was necessary to receive at least 20 percent of the vote to be eligible on the June ballot.
The delegates at the convention also unanimously accepted the proposed Republican platform.
The Los Alamos delegates were Vincent Chiravalle, James Chrobocinski, Robert Gibson, Jim Hall, JoAnn Johnson, Bill McKerley, Jaret McDonald, Francine Mendoza, Jeff Sharp, Norma Tech, Marie Todd and Mary Wilhoit.
