The University of New Mexico Lobo women’s basketball team picked up a big win in its first of four exhibition games on its tour of Italy.
Antiesha Brown spearheaded a big 15-2 run for the Lobos that sent AS Vicenza reeling during the first half. The Lobos would roll the rest of the way, winning 74-37 in Vicenza.
UNM will play against the Adriatic Sea Sirens in Pesaro, Italy, Saturday. Next week, it will take on the Netherlands national team for two games, also in Italy.
Brown had nine points and three steals during the big run that broke open a 9-9 tie. She would finish with 16 points and 6 steals, while teammate Alexa Chavez had 11 points and 8 rebounds.
The Lobos left for their tour of Italy Monday and have spent a lot of time sightseeing since their arrival.
“I love the way our kids played. We have to clean up some things but we haven’t practiced in three or four days,” Lobo head coach Yvonne Sanchez said. “I love the way the freshmen played, but I was really impressed with Bryce and Tiesh. They really got the ball rolling. Once Ebony (Walker) is healed, she’ll be part of that captain thing.”
