The White Rock Little League Junior softball All-Stars opened the state tournament with a win Friday night to advance in the winner’s bracket.
In Friday’s opener, Monika Teter struck out eight batters in three innings and the White Rock offense did the rest, ringing up a 14-2 win over Albuquerque South Valley.
In the second round Saturday afternoon, White Rock was scheduled to face off against Gallup. The result of that contest wasn’t known as of press time.
With Teter well in control Friday, Aimee Gutierrez and Mariah Zerr combined to go 7-for-8 at the plate, with Gutierrez knocking in six runs and Zerr plating four runs.
White Rock needed just five innings to close out South Valley in the opener. It scored four runs in the second inning, six in the third and four more in the fourth to seal the win.
“The girls played great,” White Rock manager Jim Zerr said. “They were excited. They were on the whole game. They had very few errors…they were on it.”
Teter, who can throw up to four innings without taking a day off, was scheduled to start Saturday’s game against Gallup.
Majors All-Stars
Jared Mang threw a complete game to put White Rock Little League’s Majors into the winner’s bracket of the state tournament Saturday.
