Light the season with a prism of holiday music

-A A +A

The Los Alamos Community Winds will present its Third Annual Holiday Prism Concert 7 p.m. Dec. 14 at White Rock Baptist Church.

Much like a prism breaks light into its component parts, LACW’s prism concert showcases the music and musicians of Los Alamos and White Rock in all their varied components.

For a little more than an hour, the audience will be literally surrounded by holiday music performed by members of the community. The Prism concert allows the audience to see and hear not only wind, brass, and string groups, but also a wide variety of soloists and small ensembles.

As the concert progresses, the audience is treated to a seamless parade of musical colors all connected in the celebration of the holiday season.

In addition to the Los Alamos Community Winds, the concert will showcase many of our community’s finest singers and instrumentalists in both solo and small ensemble performances. Tenor Rene LeClaire will perform Franz Schubert’s “Ave Maria” accompanied by pianist Cindy Little while pianist Juanita Madland will be featured on Schubert’s “Impromptu No. 3.” String Theory, a string quartet comprised of Rachel Hixson, Wendi Dreesen, Kathleen Neher, and Heather Vincent, will perform several selections including Tchaikowsky’s “Arabian Dance” from “The Nutcracker” and trumpeter Peter McLachlan will perform a suite from Handel’s “Water Music” accompanied by Robin Gurule on piano.

The Holiday Prism Concert is free to the public. Donations are accepted at the door.

The Los Alamos Community Winds has two remaining concerts for its 2013-2014 season. LACW will present a concert in celebration of Richard Wagner’s bicentenary and the 75th anniversaries of “The Wizard of Oz” and “Gone With the Wind.” 7 p.m. March 1 at Crossroads Bible Church. The concert will be co-sponsored by the Wagner Society of Santa Fe. The Season Finale Concert will be 7 p.m. May 17, also at Crossroads Bible Church.
