The Los Alamos Council on Cancer, founded in 1956, is organized for the purpose of furthering education, prevention and treatment of cancer in northern New Mexico. It is a group of physicians, nurses, medical professionals, survivors and other interested people. Council members do not receive compensation and all give freely of their time and energy.
The Council strives to increase public awareness of cancer and promotes early diagnosis and treatment.
The Council sponsors seminars featuring local, regional and national specialists; tumor conferences with faculty and staff of the University of New Mexico Medical School; workshops for medical staff and the public, and participation in the annual Los Alamos Health Fair.
The council promotes awareness of cancer resources that can assist residents of Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Rio Arriba and Sandoval counties.
This presentation is co-sponsored by the Los Alamos Medical Center and supported by the Los Alamos Medical Center Auxilians, the First Baptist Church of Los Alamos and the United Way of Northern New Mexico.
