Learn about Bible's perspective on gender equality

Men and women are invited to learn what the Bible teaches about gender equality during a conference at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church.

The conference will be held from 7-9 p.m. July 31 and Aug. 1 and from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 2.

Facilitators will be the reverends Kathy Wozniak and Pat Joyce, who have serve as missionaries and representatives of the “Shofar Sound.”

In the history of the church, women have often not been allowed to teach, preach or be leaders. The theology of what constitutes womanhood has, at times, been patriarchal, ascribing to women an inferior condition and a subordinate status.

The position, which will be presented at the conference, is that careful study clearly reveals that the traditional understanding is not scriptural.

It is believed that the Bible, in the original languages, is the inspired and inerrant word of God and is the dependable, final authority for faith and conduct. However, few can read the original languages and, thus, must depend upon translations. In the past 30 years, many papyri have been discovered that have given clear meaning to the more than 35 percent of Greek words that had been translated by “educated guesses.”
