The Pojoaque Valley Elkettes picked up a pair of first-team nods to this year’s Class 3A All-State volleyball team.
All-State honors were announced Tuesday by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association. Voting for those teams are done by NMHSCA members.
Pojoaque Valley’s Kristen Woody was named to the first team All-Class 3A squad as an outside hitter. Teammate Cheyenne Law, was picked as a first-team middle hitter for the Elkettes.
This season, the Elkettes, won their fifth consecutive state 3A title by topping Ruidoso in the final round. The title was the first for Pojoaque Valley head coach Eric Zamora.
Also for Pojoaque Valley, Sofia Lucero was named to the second team as a setter, as was libero Jaylynn Martinez.
In Class 4A, only one player District 2 earned a postseason All-State honor, Española Valley’s Elana Salzar.
Salazar, who led the Sundevils to a regular season district title and was named Player of the Year for District 2, was a second-team team pick as an outside hitter.
Goddard High School, which upset Piedra Vista for the state title this season, picked up three first team honors in 4A, more than any other team.
Among the Rockets’ honorees were setter Renee Carrica, middle hitter Megan Meeks and libero Kaitlyn Reneteria.
No Hilltoppers were selected to the 4A All-State teams for the 2013 season.
