Los Alamos School of Gymnastics’ Atomic Tumblers had a big showing at the New Mexico State Championship last month.
Katie Wingo was the top all-around athlete in her Level 4 age group. Wingo’s all-around total was 37.375. Wingo took home three event wins, the vault, parallel bars and the balance beam, as well as taking third place in the floor exercise competition for her victory.
Wingo finished with a big 9.55 on the bars to earn the win in that event. She scored 9.35 on the vault and 9.30 on floor.
Also in that age group, Brianna Fryer placed third all-around and Paetyn Miller finished fifth in all-around. Fryer picked up a bronze medal on bars (8.80) and a silver on floor (9.275). Miller was second on balance beam (8.75).
Elyse Phillips finished as the runner-up in her age division, earning an all-around score of 36.275. She won the bars competition (9.475), placed second on beam (9.05) and third on floor (9.15) to secure an all-around silver.
In an upper level age division, LASG’s Suyana Ferreira won the vault competition with her score of 9.10. She finished sixth all-around.
Cherie McCreary was also a medalist for LASG, taking third on bars (9.15) in her age group.
All of LASG’s competitors qualified to advance to Level 5 for the 2012-13 season. They will have their first opportunity to do so at LASG’s Spring Thing meet April 21.
