The Los Alamos Hilltopper wrestling team had another solid showing in last weekend’s tournament in Tucumcari.
Los Alamos placed three wrestlers into the finals and picked up two additional medals as the Rattler Invitational Saturday. The tournament had 13 participating teams.
“For the most part, we looked pretty good,” Hilltopper head coach Bob Geyer said. “Everybody except our 106-pounder won at least one match….We’re definitely looking better than I though we would at this time.”
Unfortunately, team points weren’t tracked at Saturday’s tournament, so the Hilltoppers didn’t know where they ended up amongst the competing squads.
Many of the same teams Los Alamos saw a week earlier at the Jaguar Invitational in Santa Fe were at Tucumcari’s tournament. The two Roswell schools, along with the Las Vegas schools, Los Lunas took part, as did several schools from the Amarillo, Texas, area.
Among the finalists Saturday were Lane Saunders, Brian Geyer and Jonathan Schueler, all of whom were winners the previous week.
Geyer was the lone individual champion for the Hilltoppers, picking up his second tournament title of the season. Geyer scored four consecutive pins at the 195-pound weight class, including the final.
