Los Alamos Fire and Police Department personnel were dispatched to a fire at the North Mesa Stables around 11 p.m. Tuesday. According to an eyewitness, one horse apparently died.
Reports have surfaced that the paddock and paddock area that burned was leased by longtime Los Alamos resident Lisa Reader.
Samara Graham, who boards horses at the stable, said she talked to Reader on the phone this morning.
“I called to ask her some questions and she was not having the best of mornings,” Graham said. “One of her horses Sparky died. I know she has four other horses and I am sure it is really tough on them.
“Lisa has done tons for the community and I would like to find a way we can help her out.”
Graham said she was not on the scene Tuesday night.
Los Alamos acting police chief Phil Taylor said LAFD is currently investigating the cause.
