Eligible students of northern New Mexico are encouraged to apply for scholarships offered by the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation.
Applications for the 2009 scholarships are now available for any permanent resident of northern New Mexico who is enrolling in or currently attending an accredited post-secondary educational institution is eligible to apply.
The program is available to residents of Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe and Taos counties.
Student applications are evaluated on academic performance (academic rigor, GPA, and standardized test scores), leadership potential (extracurricular and community service activities), critical thinking skills and career goals (relevant to LANL or local community needs).
Financial need, diversity, and regional representation are also weighed in the selection process.
Student applicants with a desire to pursue a degree in a science-related field or other fields important to the future success of northern New Mexico will be given priority consideration for the top awards.
LANL and its employees, retirees, and contractors have partnered with the LANL Foundation to create Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship Fund.
The Fund’s goal is to provide scholarships that support students of northern New Mexico who are pursuing undergraduate degrees in fields that will serve the region. Since 1998, over 450 northern New Mexico students have been awarded nearly $1.5 million in scholarships.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to complete the online application form at www.lanlfoundation.org/scholarships. Application forms in PDF format may also be downloaded from the website and submitted by mail.
