LANL employees have the spirit of giving

Los Alamos National Laboratory employees’ exceptional spirit of giving and generosity can be seen throughout the year in their participation in Laboratory community drives, campaigns and volunteerism.

For example, the recently completed 2010 employee-giving campaign raised a record-breaking $1.3 million in donations. With the Los Alamos National Security, LLC match, this community investment will provide more than $2.3 million in services and resources for children, senior citizens and families.

As we enter the holiday season, this is a time for each of us to reflect on all the things that bring us joy and for which we are thankful. Our Laboratory employees helped to make Thanksgiving brighter for hundreds of families in Northern New Mexico by donating non-perishable food items and frozen turkeys. Our food drive and “Take a Turkey Work Day” is providing a wonderful holiday meal for more than 670 Northern New Mexico families.

The next phase of the Laboratory’s holiday drive begins Monday. Through the holiday gift-tag program, we hope to provide gifts for more than 1,100 Northern New Mexico children and senior citizens. Laboratory employees are helping to bring smiles to their faces during the holiday season.

And finally, you are invited to participate in a Holiday Open House at the Laboratory’s Community Programs Office (1619 Central Ave.) from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 16. Please join us for warm refreshments and to help load trucks with the gifts we’ve collected and to be a part of the holiday magic when Laboratory motorcycle riders and the Los Alamos Police Department escort the gifts off “The Hill.” (By the way, we’re still looking for more motorcycle riders).
