SANTA FE – It’s the largest bank in Santa Fe, but it has Los Alamos in its name.
Los Alamos National Bank did not have a single branch in Santa Fe 10 years ago. Before summer ends next year, there will be three.
Santa Fe Mayor David Coss, bank officials, employees, family and friends braved brisk winds Wednesday to break ground for a 13,500 square-foot, two-story office.
The project will have a green building certification under the national Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. Environmentally sensitive features include solar-powered parking lot lights, wind-powered energy supplying 70 percent of the electricity, and substantial water-savings, harvesting and re-use.
The new office will be located at 3674 Cerillos Road, one block east of the busy Zafarano Street shopping area at the site of the old Yucca Drive-in.
“If you asked people in Santa Fe where was your first kiss, probably about 60 percent would say at the Yucca Drive-in,” said Fidel Guitierrez, senior vice president.
He has been responsible for LANB’s Santa Fe operations since the bank entered the capital city market in 1999.
