Los Alamos Middle School students and staff will come together next week to honor the memory of Logan Collins.
Collins, a seventh-grade student who died earlier in the school year, was a boy who loved basketball.
In memory of Collins and his love for the game, his family will be honored at the team’s last home game on Monday.
The Los Alamos Middle School Hawks will take on West Las Vegas and the community is invited to show their support for the team and the Collins family at a 3:30 p.m. presentation.
The Collins family will be presented with a framed basketball jersey shirt and a plaque that holds a picture of Collins, which will hang in the gymnasium.
The memorial will stand alongside one for Michael Brousseau, also a former student, who passed away many years ago. The team has received special permission to wear memorial blue wristbands with the initials LC from the New Mexico Athletic Association.
The Hawks Student Council and fellow students have made posters to honor the occasion prior to the official tip off with coaches Marc Clay and Jim Steritz.
Coach Daren Jones said that Los Alamos Middle School staff member, Marcie Long, was asked to sing the National Anthem in a special tribute. “We want this to be an event that brings everybody together for Logan,” Jones said.
