LALT gets melodramatic

-A A +A
By Kirsten Laskey

It was not just a hail of applause that showered the cast of the melodrama, “Ten Nights in a Barroom,” there were also peanuts.

The story and the cast gave the audience a lot of enthusiasm to make the theatre rain nuts.

The Los Alamos Little Theatre’s production of “Ten Nights” generated a lot of laughs from a very witty and light-hearted script. Simon Slade (Darryl Garcia) gave up his mill to open the Sickle and Sheaf bar, which attracts a cast of lovable kooks, such as the villainous Harvey Green (Larry Gibbons), the drunk Joe Morgan (Russ Hopper) and the good-natured salon singer Goldie Hills (Betty Wilson).

On top of that, there are can-can dances, songs, a thrilling rescue of a woman in distress and a little romance.

It is pretty impressive what the Little Theatre has been able to accomplish on a small stage. The Little Theatre effectively underwent several transformations from a tavern, to cow pasture, to an ocean pier.

What is even more impressive is the quality of the performances. Everyone is so good that it is hard to mention just a few actors. However, dressed in black and always cooking up evil schemes, Gibbons is excellent as Green. He riled up a lot of merry boos from the crowd and got pummeled with peanuts.
