Members of Los Alamos High School’s administration will be in attendance at a hardship petition hearing Wednesday in Albuquerque.
A LAHS transfer student is scheduled to have his petition reviewed to see if he is eligible to play boys basketball at the start of the 2010-11 season Wednesday morning. The review, which will be heard by the New Mexico Activities Association, the governing body of most interscholastic sports in the state, is scheduled for 10 a.m.
The student, classified at LAHS as a junior, transferred in at the beginning of the year from the Los Angeles metro area.
LAHS athletic director Vicki Nelms confirmed she will go down to Albuquerque for the meeting with the NMAA, noting it’s the first time she has ever been involved in a petition of this nature.
“It’s kind of scary in some ways,” she said. “You don’t know what to expect, but we felt it’s something positive to do for the kid.”
It is unknown if a decision will be reached immediately after the hearing.
A call to the NMAA Tuesday morning wasn’t immediately returned.
