Instead of a proposed move out of District 2AAAA, Bernalillo High School will stay put, at least for now.

The New Mexico Activities Association, the governing body of most high school interscholastic sports in the state, released its final district alignments for the next four-year block of time Wednesday afternoon.

Bernalillo will remain in District 2AAAA along with Capital, Española Valley, Los Alamos and newcomer Santa Fe starting in the 2010-11 academic year. Current district competitor Taos is slated to move to Class AAA for all sports after this upcoming academic year.

In previous alignment proposals put forth by the NMAA, Bernalillo had been slated to move to District 5AAAA, a district populated mostly by teams in and around the Albuquerque area.

Santa Fe is dropping from Class 5A to 4A due to a steep drop in enrollment at the school.

The NMAA released its final alignment following its Board of Directors meeting Wednesday.
