The Los Alamos National Laboratory is in the midst of its 2014 Employee Giving Campaign.
As of Tuesday, employees have pledged $1.2 million in this year’s campaign. Los Alamos National Security, LLC, makes a pro-rated match up to $1 million. Last’s year campaign raised $3.1 million (including the LANS match).
The lab’s giving campaign coincides with the United Way of Northern New Mexico and United Way of Santa Fe County campaigns.
The lab just ended its food drive, which included a Bring a Turkey to Work Day on Tuesday.
The lab partners with
• San Martin de Porres Soup Kitchen-Española
• Taos Feeds Taos
• Wings for Hope-Santa Fe
• St Vincent de Paul, Abiquiu, San Juan, Chimayo, Española, Pojoaque
• Knights of Columbus, Arroyo Seco
• LA Cares-Los Alamos
• St. Elizabeth’s Shelter-Española
• The Food Depot, Santa Fe.
According to lab spokesman Steve Sandoval, “we ask employees to create a food box consisting of items for preparing a traditional thanksgiving meal. We set up 14 collection points around the lab where employees drop off their food box. Employees brought frozen turkeys to work; said turkeys will be part of the food boxes that are being distributed to partner agencies this afternoon and tomorrow – right in time for Thanksgiving.
“We collected more than 400 food boxes. Employees donated 237 frozen turkeys and an additional 175 frozen turkeys were obtained via financial donation from Cray computers, a laboratory subcontractor.”
Sandoval said the total haul on turkeys was about 415.
The lab also is in the midst of its holiday drive, which started last week and continues through Dec. 17.
Sandoval said employees can participate by selecting a holiday gift tag and going out and purchasing requested items on the tag – for children and seniors.
