The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls basketball team held the Albuquerque Academy Chargers to just two points in the second quarter and four points in the fourth quarter to win in a rout Saturday.
Los Alamos snapped a three-game losing streak by pummeling the Chargers 41-19 in the seventh-place game of the Joe Armijo Invitational.
Despite holding Academy to just 8 points in the first half, Los Alamos (4-4) didn’t pull away until the second half. Los Alamos led by four points at the break but outscored Academy 19-7 in the third quarter.
Academy (0-7) didn’t break into double-digits in any quarter.
For Los Alamos, Erin Kirk had a game-high 11 points and Hayley Each added 8 points in the win. Amber Logan and McKenzie Logan both had 7 points.
It was the second win of the season by the Hilltoppers over the Chargers. They defeated the Chargers 41-30 Dec. 6, also in Albuquerque.
Los Alamos lost its first two games of the tournament, falling 77-45 to Los Lunas and 44-22 against Cibola to drop into the seventh-place game.
