The Los Alamos Hilltopper volleyball team will host the District 2-4A tournament championship game Saturday night.
The district tournament, which started Monday night, will feature all five 2-4A teams. The winner of Thursday’s semifinal match will face the Hilltoppers Saturday at Griffith Gymnasium.
Los Alamos (14-6) earned the top seed in the tournament by going 7-1 during the regular season.
Along with earning the top seed, Los Alamos also picked up an automatic bid to next week’s state tournament.
The winner of the Class 4A district tournaments around the state, if they differ from the regular season district champ, will also advance to state. The state tournament starts Nov. 15.
Los Alamos closed out its regular season with a 3-0 victory Thursday night at St. Michael’s.
It was the Hilltoppers’ eighth consecutive victory. They have not lost a match since Oct. 6.
In that match, the Hilltoppers, who won by scores of 25-19, 25-13, 25-13 over the struggling Horsemen (6-14), Erin Kirk once again led the way with 15 spike kills. Sam Fenner finished with 11 spike kills as the Hilltopers hit with 41 percent efficiency Thursday.
At the service line, Los Alamos had 12 aces, with Fenner earning four of them. Savanah Romero had 36 assists in the match and on defense Danielle Ortiz finished with 14 digs.
Bernalillo took on Capital Monday night in Santa Fe in the first round of the 2-4A tournament, with the Jaguars (9-12 overall, 3-6 in district) taking a 3-0 victory.
With their win, the Jaguars advance to play cross-town rival Santa Fe (10-10, 5-3) in the quarterfinal round tonight, with tonight’s winner playing at Española Valley (12-8, 5-3) Thursday night.
Los Alamos lost its only district contest of the season to Santa Fe and had to battle back from a 2-1 deficit in its first meeting against Española Valley last month. Los Alamos swept both teams in their most recent meetings.
