The Los Alamos Hilltopper volleyball team picked up its second sweep of the District 2-4A season over the Beranlillo Spartans Saturday.
More importantly, it also took over sole possession of first place in the 2-4A standings with the victory, coupled by a 3-2 loss by Española Valley against Santa Fe.
The Hilltoppers now sit alone atop the district with a mark of 4-1 (10-6 overall), while Santa Fe and Española Valley are tied at 3-2 behind them.
Los Alamos, which has some tough contests with Bernalillo over the past few seasons, picked up a solid 25-15, 25-20, 25-13 win on the road to start the second half of the district season.
The Spartans (4-12, 1-4) had little answer for Hilltopper middle Claire Stewart. Stewart had a match-high 18 spike kills, one of the top offensive totals of the season for Los Alamos.
Also for Los Alamos, Erin Kirk and Sam Fenner finished with 8 spike kills. Setter Savanah Romero earned 39 assists.
Saturday’s win was the fourth in a row for the Hilltoppers, who have given up just three games in those four victories.
This week, however, will go a long way to determining how the 2-4A regular season will shake out. Los Alamos faces Santa Fe Wednesday night at home then travels to Esapñola Valley Saturday night.
