The Los Alamos Hilltopper softball team defeated the Capital Jaguars 9-0. In the first inning of game one.
It didn’t get much better for the Jaguars for the balance of Friday’s doubleheader.
Los Alamos pummeled the struggling Capital squad in a District 2-4A twinbill at Overlook Park Friday afternoon. Los Alamos took the first game 16-0 in just 2-1/2 innings, then rolled to a 10-0 win in five innings in game two.
The Hilltoppers, who will be off this week until a key doubleheader against Bernalillo, scored nine times in the first inning and seven times in the second inning to close out game one in the bare minimum time.
In the second game, Los Alamos pushed five runs across in the second and three more in the fifth, pounding out 10 hits and taking advantage of five Capital fielding errors.
In game two, Emilee Jones went the distance to pick up the victory. She allowed just one hit and struck out two. Jordan Hammock gave up one hit in three innings and struck out four to win the first game.
Offensively, lead-off batter Kiana Zerr hit home runs in both games — she also ended Wednesday’s win over Española Valley with a homer — and went a combined 5-for-6, scoring five runs and knocking in five more.
In all, five Hilltoppers had multi-hit games in game one, with Alyssa Mojica going 2-for-3 and driving in four runs.
Los Alamos (9-10) substituted liberally in game two. There, nine different players accounted for the 10 hits, including Jones, who finished with a double.
With the sweep, Los Alamos improves to 5-1 in district. Its only loss came April 3 against Bernalillo’s Spartans (11-0-1 overall, 2-0 in 2-4A), who prevailed 4-2. Bernalillo was scheduled to play Santa Fe Saturday afternoon.
