LA picks up home sweep over Miyamura Saturday

-A A +A
By Mike Cote

With a big sweep at home, the Los Alamos Hilltopper baseball team is heading into District 2-4A play on a high note.
Los Alamos took two games from the Miyamura Patriots Saturday.
In a rematch from the 2012 first round of the Class 4A playoffs, the Hilltoppers were victorious, taking the first game 3-2 and earning a 7-2 win in the nightcap.
The two games were the last two for the Hilltoppers prior to the start of the 2-4A season. The Hilltoppers will face the Bernalillo Spartans Wednesday in Bernalillo.
But with the sweep and a nondistrict win last Tuesday over the Albuquerque Academy Chargers, Los Alamos may be showing it has turned a corner after a rough start the 2013 season.
There is still plenty of work to be done, however.
Los Alamos didn’t get much going in five of its six at-bats in the first game. A three-run rally, spurred by two Miyamura errors in the fifth inning, was all the offense the team could muster.
The usually sure-handed Patriot defense committed three other big errors in the second game leading to three Hilltopper runs, two in the first inning and another in the sixth.
