After a couple of weeks of knocking on the door, the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys basketball team finally broke through with a victory Friday night.
Los Alamos struggled in the first half but was down by only five points, then used an effective transition game in the second half to upend the Capital Jaguars 40-38.
The Hilltoppers had to sweat through the final two minutes of the ballgame, with both teams missing out on chances, but two late free throws by Skyler Veenis sealed the win.
It was the first victory for the Hilltoppers since mid-December.
