The Los Alamos Hilltopper baseball team will take on the Highland Hornets in the first round of the Andres Arguello Invitational baseball tournament Thursday.
Los Alamos and Highland, a Class 5A team from Albuquerque, will meet in the first round of the tournament bright and early Thursday.
The Arguello tournament is hosted by St. Pius X.
St. Pius, which is on the same side of the bracket as Los Alamos, is considered one of the teams to beat in Class 4A this year. The Sartans (1-0) will face El Paso (Texas) High School in Thursday’s first round.
Also at the tournament is Piedra Vista, which swept Los Alamos in a season-opening doubleheader Feb. 25. Piedra Vista will meet Los Alamos’ District 2-4A rival Bernalillo in the first round.
The Hilltoppers (3-3) have won three of their last four contests after losing their first two to Piedra Vista. They topped Pojoaque 9-1 on the strength of a complete game two-hitter from ace pitcher JD Weiss Monday.
Here is the bracket for the Andres Arguello Invitational tournament:
Los Alamos vs. Highland, 8 a.m.
El Paso vs. St. Pius X, 10:30 a.m.
Los Lunas vs. Socorro (Texas), 1 p.m.
Bernalillo vs. Piedra Vista, 3:30 p.m.
