LA Little Theater gives the devil his due

Who knew the devil could be so entertaining? From a fancy-dressed demon to a fiddler with a red face and horns, Satan showed his (or her) many faces during Los Alamos Little Theatre’s production of “The Devil and Daniel Webster.”Although the play is the main feature, the theater company shows its creativity in other performances. The evening begins with “Yogurt Security,” a 10-minute skit, which reveals the obstacles that confront airline travelers.Carrying their shoes and plastic bins Gloria (Patricia Beck) and Henry (Larry Gibbons) argue for their right to fly and have their yogurt, too. However, security guard, Tessa (Kelly LeVan), stands firm that any liquid exceeding 3.4 ounces is not allowed.The laughs easily tumble out as Gloria and Henry debate about whether or not yogurt is actually a liquid and just what age do people fall into the “senior citizen” category.Local playwright Robert Benjamin and Salt Lake City’s Elaine Jarvik wrote this clever skit that playfully pokes fun of homeland security and Los Alamos National Laboratory.The evening isn’t all fun and games. Next on the program is “The Devil and Daniel Webster.”Time is running out for Jabez Stone, an unlucky farmer in Crossroads, N.H., who traded his soul to the devil for wealth and fame.
